APEX Celebrates 29 Years of Volunteers

Facebooktwitter

Do you have photos of APEX volunteers or projects that were important to you? How about a remembrance of a volunteer who may not have made it into an old newsletter, but was part of your journey? Maybe you have a story about a volunteer who has moved on, but you would like remembered? If so, we would love to hear from you.

Our Anniversary Party usually commemorates the previous year, and we will certainly do that, but with your help, we will also celebrate all our yesterdays, and the volunteers who made them happen.

There are several ways you can help:There are several ways you can help:
• Provide photographs of events or people.
• Document stories of volunteers who impacted you.
• Share with former volunteers who may not hear about this event. We will have a keepsake for some of those volunteers.

If you have photos or stories you can email them to: Contact@ArizonaPowerExchange.org If you can’t scan, email us and we will arrange to have it done for you. Deadline for Submissions: September 1st, 2017

We hope everyone will participate to make this Anniversary special.

Ways to Volunteer at APEX

Facebooktwitter

APEX is entirely staffed by volunteers. Whatever you are interested in doing, we certainly need your help!

The list below includes training opportunities, volunteer opportunities, and ways you can pitch in based on the time you have available.

Minimum Time Commitment

(Single day commitments)

Pitch in when you come to the club. You can always clean up, grab a broom, take out the trash, bring ice, clean up the kitchen, straighten up the bathrooms while you’re in there, or just look for things needing done and do them. 🙂

Keep your eye on the APEX Group on Fetlife.com. There are often calls for spare hands to do big setups and other projects at the club!

Glass Cleaning: All the windows/doors at the front of the space need to be cleaned, and all of the mirrors need to be polished.

Trash Cans: Need to be taken outside once a month and cleaned inside and out.

Ash tray: Needs to be emptied once each month and new sand put in.

Outside: Both the parking lot in front of our building and the alley behind our space needs to be swept and picked up.

Tablecloths: Need to be washed once a week.

Other laundry: Pillows and throws need to be washed once a month.

Supplies: Someone to keep track of supplies including things like coffee and paper products so we never run out!

Space Improvement:  Usually one Saturday each month.  We clean, do projects, restock. Space improvement is from 10am-2pm. While it is usually on the first Saturday of the month, keep your eye on the calendar because changes sometimes need to happen.

Party DM Shifts: DM Shifts are from 7:30pm-10:30pm 10pm-12:30am, and 12:00am-2:00am. While you need to attend training, it is an important way to participate!  There is a DM Training each month. Take a look at the APEX Calendar forDM Training or email DMCoordinator@ArizonaPowerExchange.org.

Door Shifts: Every APEX event needs someone to do the door and handle orientations. Door shifts on weekdays are typically 6:15pm-8:00pm. Parties are from 7:30pm-11pm. Working the door is a great way to meet people! There is a Door Training each month. Take a look at the APEX Calendar for Door Training or email DoorCoordinator@ArizonaPowerExchange.org.

Moderate Commitment (3-5 Hours each week)

Facebook Events (click to see details)

We want to have a larger presence on Facebook, which will include Facebook events. While it will be a large time commitment to begin, it will level out to just a few hours each week you can do from home! For more information email Tess@ArizonaPowerExchange.org

More Significant Commitment (5-8 Hours Each Week)

Social Opportunities Chair  (click to see details)

Whose functions include: Parties, non-play social activities

The APEX Social Opportunities Chair is responsible for the management, logistics and support of all social based activities of APEX.  The Social chair is tasked with appointing coordinators as needed, and supporting their team members as needed.  The chair is also tasked with ensuring that all areas of social opportunities are operating smoothly, and to make adjustments to procedures, activities, or events as needed.  Finally the social opportunities chair is responsible for the development and implementation of new social opportunities and ideas for the benefit of the club and its members.

As APEX continues to grow and evolve to meet the challenges of social media, internet availability and outside groups, it becomes important for APEX to establish a sense of connection and belonging for its membership.  This can be accomplished with the development of social programs within the larger organization, essentially establishing a comfort level within the larger “Community Center” structure. These offerings help new and old members establish a sense of intimacy and provide a sanctuary within the larger club, so that we retain those members after their desired level of ‘education’ has been completed.

This Chair works with their Coordinators and marketing individuals to direct inquiries to the appropriate groups for new and old members expressing a desire to participate, and will actively provide support to membership efforts with marketing of social opportunities to new members. Each month the Chair will provide a written report of activities at the Executive Committee Meeting as well as plans for development, and should be able to provide a report of activities within the Social functions regarding attendance and growth needs.

Skillsets for the Chair for Social Opportunities include excellent communication skills, diplomacy, team-building, and creativity.  This person should be relatively active on Fetlife to monitor the various emerging interests within the community and should be able to work with a wide variety of populations, so should be open-minded and comfortable with diversity.  A proven ability to follow-through in communication, and an awareness of marketing techniques is helpful in this position.  A friendly smile and warm personality will also go a long way when making members feel welcome and inviting them to find their own interests as they continue their journey of self-discovery.

Each month the Chair will check in and ensure plans and activities are being completed, will assist with facilitating any needs and meeting challenges that each of these individuals may be encountering and will provide a chain of command for the Executive Committee to communicate plans and direction with regard to a larger vision for APEX.

Specific time commitments are as follows: Attend the monthly Executive Committee Meeting (some absences are acceptable) and be active enough in the club to know if our Social functions are serving the needs of the Membership. When a coordinator is not present, the Social Opportunities Chair will step into this role ensuring that the club and membership needs are met. The Social Opportunities Chair will also make it a priority to find successors to each position and for themselves.

Education Chair  (click to see details)

The APEX education chair is responsible for the management, logistics and support of all educational based activities of APEX.  The education chair is tasked with appointing coordinators as needed (Monday nights, Saturday workshops, etc), and supporting their team members as needed.  The chair is also tasked with ensuring that all areas of education are operating smoothly, and to make adjustments to procedures, activities, or events as needed.  Finally the education chair is responsible for the development and implementation of new educational opportunities and ideas for the benefit of the club and its members.

As an organization continues to grow and evolve to meet the challenges of social media, internet availability and member associated gatherings such as munches, it becomes important for an organization to establish a sense of connection and belonging for its membership.  This can be accomplished with the development of programs within the larger organization, essentially establishing small, intimate groups where ideas can be shared, discussed and learned from each participant.  These groups help new and old members establish a sense of intimacy and provide a sanctuary within the larger club, so that in party and event settings there remains a sense of belonging and a comfort in growing and expanding.

This Chair works with their Coordinators and marketing individuals to direct inquiries to the appropriate groups for new and old members expressing a desire to know more about a function, and will actively provide support to membership efforts with marketing of new support functions to new members. Each month the Chair will provide a written report of activities at the Executive Committee Meeting as well as plans for development, and should be able to provide a report of activities within the Education function regarding attendance and growth needs.

Skillsets for the Chair for Education include:  Excellent communication skills, diplomacy, team-building, and creativity.  This person should be relatively active on Fetlife to monitor the various emerging interests within the community and should be able to work with a wide variety of populations, so should be open-minded and comfortable with diversity.  A proven ability to follow-through in communication, and an awareness of marketing techniques is helpful in this position.  A friendly smile and warm personality will also go a long way when making new members feel welcome and inviting them to find their own interests as they continue their journey of self-discovery.

Each month the Chair will check in and ensure plans and activities are being completed, will assist with facilitating any needs and meeting challenges that each of these individuals may be encountering and will provide a chain of command for the Executive Committee to communicate plans and direction with regard to a larger vision for APEX.

Specific time commitments are as follows: Attend the monthly Executive Committee Meeting (some absences are acceptable) and be active enough in the club to know if our Education functions are serving the needs of the Membership. When a coordinator is not present, the Education Chair will step into this role ensuring that the club and membership needs are met. The Education Chair will also make it a priority to find successors to each position and for themselves.

APEX will also have spaces open on the Executive Committee this year.  The time commitment varies, but you need to be prepared to be at the club at least one day a week, and there’s lots of business in the mean time.

The 2016 Arizona Master Slave Contest: Sponsored by APEX

Facebooktwitter

The 2016 Arizona Master slave Contest is approaching

This contest celebrates the Master/slave dynamic and is a positive outreach to the community at large in an effort to promote, educate and build upon healthy Master and slave relationships. The contest is for couples who self-identify as Master and slave or Owner and property, regardless of age, race, religion, gender or sexual orientation.

The holders of the Arizona Master and slave title will be the Arizona State spokespersons for the Master and slave community through their title year. Title holders must have the ability to effectively communicate to the community what it means to live and identify as Master or slave.

This year we have two contestant pairs excited to represent Arizona. Read more about them below. For more information please visit the Arizona Master slave Contest Website: http://arizonamasterslave.com/

Our 2016 Contestants

Master Dennis and Ms Bonnie
We both strongly believe in the Master/slave dynamic and we are active in supporting our local community with our time, our energies and assisting others with their education. We believe that we have experiences that are both good and bad as a 24/7 Master/slave couple of 19 years and can help others in their understanding of Master/slave relationships. Education on many topics is our primary goal, sharing experiences from 2 perspectives with the opportunity to learn from others. Master Dennis and Ms Bonnie are members of the Arizona Power Exchange, staff at Butchmanns Experience, and both participate with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.

Darrell and Amanda
Are also members of the Arizona Power Exchange (APEX). Darrell and Amanda have been together for twelve (12) years, and are excited to educate about Master slave relationships and represent Arizona. Darrell and Amanda hail from Arizona City and bring a fresh perspective to our contest this year.

Monday Night Programming: Worship
Worship is a broad category of those types of things we like to do to express devotion, commitment, or feelings towards specific concepts or dynamics or people. These behaviors can be discovered in any and all of the variety of connections the kink community creates. Worship can explore the spiritual side of connection or be intended to turn your partner on! During this class we will explore different kinds of worship and how they might enhance your relationships, each unique, not one better than the other. We will discuss different states of being that can occur during worship which includes:
Alpha state: This is when the brain emits slower electrical patterns, which are call “alpha” waves. In the alpha state we are less active and more receptive and open to our feelings. The alpha state is most likely to happen when we let ourselves live in the present moment rather than in the future or the past.
Beta state: This is when the brain emits faster electrical patterns, which are called “beta” waves. In this state we are able to rationalize, analyze, and think about the past and future. We are usually in a beta state when we are awake and in a busy, thinking state of mind.
Endorphins: Chemical compounds derived from a substance in the pituitary gland. They have pain-relieving properties and are responsible for sensations of pleasure. They are sometimes known as “happy chemicals”.
Mindfulness: A state of mind where you are fully aware of everything in the present moment. It heightens sensitivity and enables us to feel things more intensely. It also helps us to be more aware and observant and perform tasks more efficiently.
Some examples of the kinds of Worship activities we might explore:
• Boot worship
• Kneeling and Body language modification
• Affirmations
• Objectification
• Chastity, Orgasm Control, Orgasm Conditioning
• Speech Modification
• Dance worship
• Rituals
• Scrolls, agreements, contracts
• Marking for ownership
• Protocols

There will be a demo of dance worship during the class. While couples are welcome, these activities can be explored as an individual. Feel free to send any questions about our group to Samantha@arizonapowerexchange.org.

Bio: slave Samantha has been practicing protocols, rituals, dance worship, speech modification, affirmations, and kneeling since 2005 in her home privately. She joined APEX in 2012 and has been a volunteer for the past three years. She joined APEX’s Executive Committee in 2013.

If there is a subject that you are interested in seeing or teaching, please email Mondays@ArizonaPowerExchange.org.

APEX E.D.G.E. Woo-U: Living with Intent

During this interactive discussion we will take a look at living life with more intention. We will look at some components of what makes this lifestyle, and authority exchange relationships what they are and why there might be such a draw to all of this. We will discuss what living a life of intention might look like through the “lifestyle lens,” incorporating all of the tools at our disposal. We have so many “tools” in this lifestyle that we can intentionally use to help us move towards a more peaceful place, once we understand more of the “why” we do all this. We will also take a look at what living a leather life of intention might look like. Please come spend some time exploring all this with Michael Anthony.
Bio: Michael Anthony, Masterslave is a sadomasochist leather person. After years identifying as slave, he now has incorporated his many years of learning to master self into his identification.Michael Anthony lives with and also serves the beautifully primal Rōnin. He loves to write and in that can be a bit of a muse. In his presentations he likes to focus on the “why” behind so much of what we do in this lifestyle with an overall goal of reducing suffering through mindful and obedient behavior.Currently he is the Registrar and on faculty for Butchmanns Experience Weekends, Volunteer Coordinator for Sin-In-The-City in Las Vegas and Assistant Director for the South West Leather Conference in Phoenix. Michael Anthony is an active member in the Phoenix Leather/Kink Community and spends much of his free time mentoring/mastering others across the country on their unique journeys.
This EDGE group has been formed to help capture the spirit and “rekindle” the fire of Woo that has been an integral component of the magic of the Southwest, and specifically, Arizona. This will be accomplished through a “Woo demystification” educational process that shows how those in the community incorporate “Woo” into their everyday lives. For this month’s topic and details, please keep an eye on Fetlife.com at the APEX Group and the Woo-U E.D.G.E. Group

For more information please contact Michael_Anthony on Fetlife.com

APEX 101: The Dungeon
Dungeon 101 serves as an introduction into public BDSM play for those who have been members of Apex for less than 12 months. Attending a public BDSM play event can be a bit daunting, and this event is specifically designed to help you feel more “at home” in your space and the tools to feel more comfortable at play parties in a fun and casual atmosphere.
The evening will contain…
  • A talk about how play parties work, how to be a non-interfering spectator, the etiquette and logistics of our club and generally how to make yourself at home.
  • A tour of the facility. We’ll show you the play equipment, discuss safety concerns, and review some of the rules so that everyone can be comfortable and just enjoy themselves. The difference between this and your first orientation tour is that we are set up for a party!
  • Show and Tell. We have invited some APEX members who have great toy bags to attend with a selection of their favorite BDSM toys. Here is your opportunity to ask questions about where to procure toys, how they are used, and for what!
  • Then we play! The ‘open-playtime’ portion of our evening is for you – our new members! You are welcome to play, and we have also invited a few experienced players to model scenes for you to watch. These will not be “staged” or “demonstration” scenes, but examples of public play you might see at a Saturday Dungeon Party. The best part is that these individuals will be available after their scenes to answer any questions you may have. This is a great opportunity to talk with experienced players.

Important note to experienced APEX members about this special event: 1) Unless you have been expressly invited to participate as a presenter, we ask that you attend in an observational role only. 2) If you are a seasoned kinkster and will attend, we ask that you please show the same courtesy and respect for the evening’s presenters, as you would at any educational event. 3) These events are geared toward creating a comfortable environment for educational playtime for those new to the club. If you are an established kink community member, we ask that you plan to play at the Saturday parties. 4) If you are an established kinkster and are interested in presenting at a future Dungeon 101 (sharing your toybag, doing a scene, answering questions), please email Tess@arizonapowerexchange.org. Please note that the invitations list is updated for EACH event based on the dynamics of the particular group. If you’ve not been specifically invited this month, please email.OPEN TO ALL APEX MEMBERS
