Debunking Biblical Notions of ‘Sexual Sin’ Through Dark Religious Play with Order of E

Event Series Event Series: Monday Night Classes

October 14 @ 7:15 pm 9:30 pm

This class will challenge the conventional ideas of “sexual sin” by examining how these concepts have been used as tools of control rather than as expressions of true spirituality. We will explore how religious role play can serve as a powerful form of resistance and a means of healing from both individual and societal spiritual abuse.

In the first half, we’ll delve into the historical harm caused in the name of Biblical sexual morality. We will critically examine how religious leaders have imposed prohibitions on various forms of sexual pleasure, using shame, stigma, and even violence to control and persecute those who deviate from their norms. By understanding the power dynamics at play, we can begin to reject these violations of fundamental human rights and find freedom in reclaiming our own narratives.

The second half of the class will focus on the practical aspects of religious role play. From conceptualization to execution, we’ll discuss how to design scenes that blend theatrical elements with personal expression. Topics will include crafting narratives, setting the stage, and creating costumes and props. We’ll showcase items from our personal collection, provide demonstrations, and engage participants in small group activities to design their own scenarios. Handouts and resources for further learning will be provided, along with an open Q&A to foster a deeper understanding of this transformative practice.
